Defense spending keeps getting framed around shiny new platforms, but that misses the point. A budget should be measured by whether it deters a fight and can sustain one, not by how many legacy systems roll off the line. Every dollar sunk into Cold War era hardware is a dollar that could go toward drones, electronic warfare, and cyber capabilities that actually match how conflicts are fought now. Procurement theater makes for good press, but it hollows out readiness where it matters. Stop buying the past and start funding the asymmetric edge.
